The Autism Awareness Centre believes that education is the key to success in assisting individuals who have autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), Asperger Syndrome and other disorders such as Tourette Syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). With numerous social, communication, and behavioral intervention methods and the more recent field of biomedical interventions, it is important to keep parents and professionals on the leading edge of new information.

By hosting workshops across Canada and providing resource support both in Canada and abroad, the Autism Awareness Centre is committed to ensuring information reaches all communities. The Autism Awareness Centre is leading the way for change by providing conferences to all corners of Canada and beyond.  We have now hosted 37 conferences across Canada and the UK. At the Autism Awareness Centre, we “believe in change".

Books and Resource Information

The Autism Awareness Centre carries over 300 books and items that will enhance and support Autism Spectrum Disorder programs and therapies. The selection of resources is updated monthly with new titles on topics such as sensory integration, behavioural methods, biomedical interventions, communication, social skills, personal stories, adult issues and classroom inclusion. We also have information on Down Syndrome, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), dyslexia, Nonverbal Learning Disability, Tourette Syndrome, and learning disabilities (LD).

Books and Other Learning Aids

Be sure to check our bookstore often as we are continually adding new books. We also carry many CD's, DVD's, Eye Spy Bags and Tangle Toys.   Searching for a book that is not on our resource list? Give us the title of the book and we can help you find it. Please let us know if you need books in other languages. Currently we have several titles available in French and Spanish.

Articles

The Autism Awareness Centre provides you with up-to-date articles on every aspect of ASD.  Articles are written by professionals in the areas of speech and communication, behaviour, biomedical inverventions, sensory issues, Autism/PDD, Asperger Syndrome and other disabilities.  Be sure to check regularly as we are always adding new information that we know you will find helpful.   Quarterly Newsletter

At the Autism Awareness Centre, we believe that all of the information on this site should be available to anyone at anytime.  We won't ask you to sign up to be a member.  However, if you would like a free subscription to our quarterly newsletter for additional articles, book reviews and conference updates, please go to our Newsletter tab and sign in.

Health on the Net Accreditation

Autism Awareness Centre recently received its Health on the Net Accreditation (HoN Code). The Health on the Net Foundation Code of Conduct (HONcode) for medical and health Web sites addresses one of Internet's main healthcare issues: the reliability and credibility of information. The Internet has become one of the most widely-used communication media. With the availability of Web server software, anyone can set up a Web site and publish any kind of data which is then accessible to all.

The problem is therefore no longer finding information but assessing the credibility of the publisher as well as the relevance and accuracy of a document retrieved from the Net. In many cases, a given Web site provides no appropriate documentation regarding the scientific design of a medical study, nor are studies made available that support given claims.

The Health On the Net Foundation has elaborated the Code of Conduct to help standardise the reliability of medical and health information available on the World-Wide Web. The HoN Code holds Web site developers to basic ethical standards in the presentation of information and helps make sure readers always know the source and the purpose of the data they are reading. Sites that meet the Code of Conduct can display the HONcode symbol and provide a direct link to the HON Foundation Web site for verification. Autism Awareness Centre is proud to display the HoN Code throughout its website on the bookstore, conference and home pages. Information reprinted from the Health on the Net Foundation website.

Note: The information on this website is not intended to replace the advice of a trained physician or medical professional. Please consult a medical professional for health related questions and concerns.
